Dagnabbit, what is this that I hear about a millionaire flying
around the world in a balloon? He's a millionaire! He should just take
a plane--and sit in first class to boot! He's got the money.
The guy wants to fly around in a balloon so he can get his name in that
"world record" book--until someone else does it faster or better. I'll
bet you that some billionaire will break his record in three years!
This guy is not alone; there are other idjits like him out there.
There are people jumping real far over a bunch of cars on their
motorcycles, there are people choking down fifty hotdogs in one
sitting, and there are people spending more time in their gardens--than
with their kids--in an effort to grow the world's biggest pumpkin!
I think that we just set the world record for the most idjits!
Why do people want to risk their lives just to get their name in a book
for a couple of years? Does anyone really care about the guy who had
the longest beard? Does anyone really care about the town that made the
world's biggest pancake? Does anyone really care who invented insulin?
Are people SO empty that they want to be remembered for performing some
stupid feat?
People shouldn't be proud of what stupid things they have done, they should be proud of what kind of people they are.
They should make a book about great people who help other folks, people
who save lives, or people willing to buy an editorial writer a beer
from time to time. That's the kind of book that I would read!
