I get a lot of letters telling me that I'm living in the past, and
that I'm out of touch with today's society--but that's just not the
case!
Just to show everyone how up-to-date I am, on
Saturday I sat down and watched sixteen minutes of this "Emm Tee-Vee"
(MTV) channel.
I was left with one conclusion: there are a lot of idjits in music!
The first musical number I saw was about these five young sissy boys
who pranced around and sang some song. But they did more dancing than
singing for crying out loud! I thought that I was watching a dancing
channel. They were all singing about this one girl, but not one of them
seemed to realize that the little tramp must have been dating all five
of them!
The next thing I watched was called a "rap video". Now this video had a
bunch of guys wearing shirts that said "Gangsta" on them and they drove
around in a car that I'm sure had something wrong with its suspension.
While they drove around, they said a lot of words that rhymed, they
finished each others lines, and they all did a lot of nodding. It was
like they were a squad of male cheerleaders at an inner-city pep rally!
I'm surprised that they didn't form a pyramid at the end! I guess you'd
have called it a "Gangsta-mid."
My MTV that day wasn't all bad though...
Just when I was about to turn it off, on came a fantastic musician
named Tracey Chapman. Tracey had only a guitar and a microphone and
sang an amazing folk song about a troubled character that touched my
heart. Tracey had passion and was better than anything else I had
watched that day, hands down! He was great!
There are a lot of idjits in the music industry and I'm not as out of touch as some people might think.
